Potential Anti-Cancer

        Cancer, as we all know, is one of the leading cause of death. Poor lifestyle, environmental and genetic factors contribute to the occurrence of the said disease. As it was defined [in wikipedia], it is a class of disease in which a cell, or a group of cells display uncontrolled growth (division beyond the normal limits), invasion (intrusion on and destruction of adjacent tissues), and sometimes metastasis (spread to other locations in the body via lymph or blood).

      
       But have you ever wonder what was the breakthrough in cancer research in this modern times?

       Nowadays, cancer research is on going on the important plants and its phytochemicals, as several universities and companies continue to research for the cure against deadly cancer. And if you are a pharmacy student or any allied medical researcher, you should consider the following plants:

1. Annona muricata (Guyabano)

       - found to have Annonaceous acetogenin which exhibit anti-cancer property
       - substitute: Annonacea Family (Reticulata and Squamosa)
2. Sandoricum koetjape (Santol)
3. Morinda citrifolia
      - Damnacanthal is an anthraquinone which acts as a p56lck tyrosine kinase inhibitor
4. Brassica oleracea (Broccoli)
      - substitute: Cauliflower
      - contains multiple nutrients with potent anti-cancer properties, such as diindolylmethane

5. Aspergillus  fumigatus
      - when the fermentation broth of A. fumigatus was screened, a number of indolic alkaloids were discovered. The compounds of interest have been of a class known as tryprostatins, a special interest as an anti-cancer drug.

6. Cymbopogon citratus (Lemon grass)
       - Citral induces programmed cell death in the cancerous cells

7. Agaricus subrufescens (a kind of mushroom)
       - offer anti-cancer properties

8. Ocimum basilicum (Basil)
       - potential antioxidant; It exhibits anticancer, antiviral and antibacterial activity
9. Psidium guajava (Guava)
       - implicated in therapeutic mechanisms against cancer. It is known for its antibacterial effect
10. Vernonia amygdalina
       - extracts may help suppress, delay, or kill cancerous cell
       - substitute: Vernonia cinerea 

11. Magnolia grandifloris
       - contains Honokiol, a biphenolic compound present in the cones, bark, and leaves  that has been used in the traditional Japanese medicine Saiboku-to as an anxiolytic, antithrombotic, anti-depressant, anti-emetic, and anti-bacterial.

12. Pinus palustris (Pine tree)
       - contains Abietic acid which inhibits cancer
13. Annacardium occidentale (Cashew)
       - Cashew is well known for its keratolytic effect used in the treatment of warts. But it  also contains Anacardic acid, a potential anti-cancer

14. Coffea arabica
       - chemical components includes caffeic acid and chlorogenic acid (can also be found in bamboo) which is a potential antioxidant and it also inhibits tumor growth.
15. Fenula communis (Fennel)
       - contains Ferulic acid, an antioxidant and exhibit anti-tumor activity
       - it can also be found in rice, apple, wheat, artichoke and pineapple

       At the end, isn't it amazing that God created plants endowed with possible treatment for different diseases? Think and reflect.

DOTA 101: Sacred Warrior

       Have you ever try to play Defense of the Ancients(DOTA)?

      Well for me, I learned to play this game when I was on my 3rd year college. My friend taught me about it including the control keys. At first, it was so uneasy because I'm not fond of playing any computer games.

       I admit it. I'm no match with my friends since they already had it starting from their 2nd year or maybe 1st. But there was this incidence when we played together with our other classmate, a 3v3 and 1v1 match. Luckily, I won in the 1v1.

      Since then, I never realized that I'm being hooked up with the game. Until now, I'm still playing and able to use 5 heroes, namely: Zeus(my first hero), Troll, Huskar, Furion and Magina. 

      This time, I want to share one of my favorite hero - Huskar.

  Introduction

Sacred Warrior - Huskar

      Huskar is unique in being the only strength hero with a regular ranged physical attack, giving him the advantages of a ranged hero and the survivability of a strength hero. Although he is a powerful force at all stages, Huskar is especially dangerous early in the game when his Burning Spears can quickly decimate any foe. Huskar can find his life quickly drained away by this ability, and must be careful to balance harassment and defense. Due to his Berserker's Blood passive, Huskar is at his most deadly when he is injured: as he gets more and more damaged, he gains damage and attack speed. Combined with his Inner Vitality healing spell, Berserker's Blood can quickly turn what may have appeared to be a losing situation into a resounding victory. His powerful Life Break ability emphasizes this suicidal fighting style, causing immense damage to both the target and Huskar himself. However, while Huskar increases in power the more damage he takes, it is unlikely that his unlucky target can say the same. (From playdota.com)

  PROS: Great attack range and survivability;
               Slows down enemy using Life Break skill;
  CONS: Consume large amount of mana when using Inner Vitality skill;
               Life loss by half when using Life Break

  Item Build
   
     1. Bracer - Gives +6 strength to your hero which is good for increasing your damage as well as your hp
     2. Boots of Travel - Increases your movement speed by 95% and allows you to teleport with allies. This is  great for farming. Optional: Power Treads

     3. Armlet of Mordiggian  - Grants you +9 damage, armor and +15 attack speed.
     4. Aghanims  - Increases your hp as well as your mana. Counteracts his cons.
     5. Heart of Tarrasque  - Gives your hero +40 strength (an additional to your damage and hp), +300hp and hp regeneration. This improves his survivability.
     6. Divine Rapier - I recommend you to by this item on the late game when you have completed the item and have enough gold. This will grant you +250 damage making you so very IMBA. Disadvantage: Dropped when dead
    7. Guinsoo - It allows you to disable the opponent, allowing you to attack him.

My First Video Editing Experience

" A good video can make all the difference."

       Months ago, our professor told us to prepare a short film as a pre-requisite in our subject. As a pharmacy student, we do not have any background in video editing and acting, unless we were a pro. The theme of the video must to demonstrate the proper way of interacting  with other professionals. And therefore, we came up with the idea of making four series of a short film with spoof commercials in between.

Here are the sample video:

       This video commercial is taken from a local Philippine ad known as "Pasiklaban", in regards to the promotional item of McDonald's. Well of course, I directed the scene with my classmates as actors.

       Another one is a parody of Mexican telenovela "Marimar" which shows an interaction between two pharmacist namely "Marimar and Sergio". The scene may not actually demonstrate the said topic but rather it is more of comedy.

Softwares which I think is beneficial in video editing:

1. Adobe Photoshop CS4/CS5
•  this enables you to edit your picture in different manners which  later can be incorporate to your video. Series cover can also be done using this software. (www.adobe.com)
2. Adobe Premiere CS4/CS5
• I used this as my main software in editing video. It includes almost everything you need in video making such as audio and  video effects, credits, a timeline, movie speed and audio editing (i.e. mute). 
• PROS: User friendly; Almost complete when it comes with its features; Affordable
• CONS: Needs a high computer specification
• Alternatives: Windows Movie Maker
3. Youtube Downloader
• Needed if you wish to add movie clips like 20th Century or Pixar Intro into your movie.

Getting Started

        From the word itself "Getting Started", well this was my second time to create a blog. Actually, years ago, I tried to create one so that I can earn money through Google AdSense.Unfortunately, I end up messing with my blog. 

       Eager to create my own page, I kinda experiment with the first one and luckily, I am able to do so. About the Google AdSense, I learned that my high school classmates bought their personal gadgets from their ad earning. Just like them, I want to grab this opportunity to be a junior "entrepreneur?" or let just say an earner.

What's with this blog?

Asking myself of what is the significance of this blog. I end up formulating an objectives:

1. Enable to share my experiences and ideas which may inspire the readers
2. To be one of the leading source of general information
3. To make this blog, a place where to meet new friends through interactive features

       Just like the other blogs, this will serves as a diary or window for innovations which will be beneficial to the readers. I can not promise that I am able to generate enough information you need but I can guarantee you that I will give my ten thousand hour to make this blog an informative, interactive, addicting one.
